About SKWRL

SKWRL helps you save places and discover them through people whose taste you trust. The iPhone beta and skwrl.app are operated by Daniel Soderstedt. Contact hello@skwrl.app for support or privacy requests. The initial invited beta is for adults aged 18 and over.

Your account and profile

We store your account identifier and email to operate your account. You can sign in using the methods offered in the app. Apple may provide a private relay email; Google can provide your name, email and profile information. Supabase handles authentication, password credentials and sessions. Resend delivers verification, password recovery and security emails. Signup requires a name, unique username and a city you confirm. Your bio and profile photo are optional. Your selected city is a public profile label, not a stored precise location.

What other people can see

Profiles start public. Your name, username, city, bio, profile photo and relationship counts can be visible to other users. A private profile requires approval for new followers to view its collection and follower/following lists. Existing approved followers keep access until removed. Profile photos are public image assets, including on private profiles. New lists default to public. You can choose Private when creating a list or change its visibility later. You can also invite collaborators. A public list on a private profile is limited to the profile audience and its explicit collaborators. Places saved only to private lists are excluded from other people’s profile places view. Place notes are separate from list privacy: your followers can read your notes, including existing notes, on a place’s page even when you saved it only to a private list. For private profiles, only approved followers can read notes. Reading a note does not reveal the private list or its membership.

Saved places and social activity

We store Apple place identifiers, your saves and notes, list titles and descriptions, list memberships, follows and requests, collaboration invitations, activity and notifications. We remember which version of a followed list you opened to identify new additions. Saving requires choosing a list. Other people’s additions to a collaborative list are not automatically saved to your personal collection. Removing your last list placement moves your original save date and note to Removed places, visible only to you until restored or permanently deleted. Clearing a note, removing its save, removing a follower or blocking an account revokes the corresponding access to that note.

Optional AI list covers

Before drawing covers, SKWRL asks permission to send your list names and cities to OpenAI. Cities can be inferred from places you add. If you allow AI covers, this applies to automatic covers and new options you request, including for private lists. We also send SKWRL’s illustration instructions and reference artwork. We do not include your account email, profile details or place notes in these generation requests.

Your choice is saved to your account. Choose Not now to continue without AI covers, or change it under Profile → Settings → AI covers. Turning it off prevents new generation requests; a request already sent to OpenAI may finish. Existing covers remain until changed or their list is deleted. Covers follow their list’s access rules. We store generated options and generation status in Supabase; deleting a list or account queues its stored cover files for removal. OpenAI processes generation requests under its API data policies.

Apple Maps and location

Apple supplies maps and place details. Search terms and the selected map region are processed by Apple’s map services. The backend checks newly submitted Apple place identifiers and retains their verification time and limited per-account request counters to prevent abuse. Optional foreground location helps center the map, find nearby places and suggest a city for you to confirm. SKWRL does not upload a location history to its database. You can deny or revoke location permission in iOS Settings and still search for places and cities.

Services, website and diagnostics

Supabase provides account, database, image storage and backend services. Render runs the background service that generates covers. OpenAI provides the optional image-generation service. Vercel hosts our website, and Vercel Web Analytics measures website visits; the native app does not include an advertising or analytics SDK. Apple may supply TestFlight feedback and crash information during beta testing. Hosting and authentication providers process operational and security logs. Joining the website waitlist stores the email address you submit for access updates. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. We do not sell your personal information or use your content for targeted advertising.

Safety and reports

We store reports and the details you submit to investigate abuse. Reports are not public. You can report profiles and lists, block users and contact hello@skwrl.app about content or a moderation decision. Blocking restricts authenticated interactions and ends affected relationships; it does not make content already published publicly private. Public content may be hidden after review.

Retention and deletion

We keep account content while your account is active or while it remains in your private Removed places collection. Use Profile → Settings → Delete account to request in-app deletion. Account deletion removes your profile, saves, notes, owned lists, memberships and contributions to other lists, and requests removal of your profile images. Other people’s independent saves and canonical place identifiers can remain. Reports may retain report details and content identifiers after your identity is removed. Limited provider logs, backups and records required for security, dispute handling or legal obligations may remain according to the relevant retention requirements. The beta may change; do not rely on it as your only copy of essential information.

Your choices and requests

You can edit your profile, choose profile and list privacy, remove followers, revoke location permission, and delete content or your account. Contact hello@skwrl.app from your account email to request access, correction, export or deletion of your information, or removal from the website waitlist. We may need to verify ownership before acting. Rights available to you depend on where you live. Contact the same address with a privacy concern or complaint.

Security and updates

We use access controls and other safeguards to protect account data; no service can guarantee perfect security. Keep your sign-in credentials private and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access. We will update this page and its effective date when our practices change, and provide additional notice when appropriate.
